Ruben Amorim has already made feelings on Erik ten Hag clear amid Man Utd rumours

The 38-year-old has already addressed rumours.

Ruben Amorim has already his feelings on Erik ten Hag clear amid speculation linking him with the Manchester United job.

The Red Devils' miserable start to the season was compounded by consecutive 3-0 defeats to local rivals Manchester City and Newcastle recently.

As a result, Ten Hag's position has been cast into doubt, with Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim tipped to replace him at Old Trafford.

Manchester United have identified Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim as a potential replacement for Ten Hag.

However, the 38-year-old has already made his feelings clear on the Dutchman and sung his praises back in 2021.

Ten Hag was in charge of Ajax at the time, and Amorim was preparing to meet him in the Champions League.

“We are talking about rumours here," he told reporters in 2021. "I was clear about my future last week.

"Several names were thrown around. Therefore, they’re rumours that I don’t give much attention to. However, if I may, I think Manchester United should sign Ten Hag this week. Now that would be something that would make me quite happy.”

Former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane has also been linked with the United job and previously addressed rumours linking him with a move to the Premier League.

Speaking to L’Equipe in 2022, Zidane said: “When I was a player, I could choose almost every club. As a coach, there aren't 50 clubs I can go to. There are two or three possibilities.

“If I go back to a club, it's to win. I say this in all modesty. That's why I can't go anywhere.

“For other reasons, too, I might not be able to go everywhere. Which ones? The language, for example. Certain conditions make things more difficult.

“When people say to me: 'Do you want to go to Manchester?' I understand English but I don't fully master it.

“I know that there are coaches who go to clubs without speaking the language, but I work differently. To win, many elements come into play. It's a global context. Me, I know what I need to win.”
