Anthony Gordon hits out at "ridiculous" decision that means he'll miss Newcastle vs Everton on Tuesday

Anthony Gordon was sent off during Newcastle’s dramatic win over West Ham on Saturday.

Anthony Gordan has hit out at the ‘ridiculous’ decision that will see him miss Newcastle United’s next match.

On Saturday afternoon, Newcastle came from 3-1 down to beat West Ham United 4-3 at St. James’ Park.

Second half substitute Harvey Barnes was the hero as he scored the equaliser to make it 3-3 before netting the winner.

After providing the assist for the winner and also winning a penalty, Gordon received a second yellow card in the 94th minute, meaning he was given his marching orders.

As a result, the Englishman will now be suspended for the Magpies’ next match, which is against Gordon’s former club Everton on Tuesday.

Speaking about the decision, Gordon said: “I tapped the ball away. How far you want to look into that... it's incredible really.

“To get sent off for tapping a ball five yards. To be honest with you, I only think he booked me because he didn't know he'd booked me before. That's not good enough to be honest with you.”

He added: “I don't want to complain about referees because they have a job to do. They are the rules so he's sticking to the rules and laws of the game but it's ridiculous really.”

Manager Eddie Howe said: “That's a huge blow for us, it sort of summed up the day really another absentee.

“A big blow for us, especially for him personally with the game it was but Harvey and Elliot [Anderson] have come on the pitch and done really well so at least we have players in form.”

Apart from Gordon, Newcastle are set to be without the likes of Jamal Lascelles, Tino Livramento and Miguel Almiron after they were all taken off injured.

Speaking about the injuries, Howe said: “Jamaal’s is a knee problem, but I don’t know any more than that at the moment.

“With Tino, I think the ball hit his ankle, so it was an ankle twist. Miggy hurt his knee crossing a ball, but again, I don’t know the details.”
