Premier League club 'demand referee is banned from officiating their games'

Premier League club 'demand referee is banned from officiating their games'

The Premier League officials are under pressure after making multiple glaring mistakes this season

Premier League side Nottingham Forest have reportedly demanded Rob Jones be banned from taking charge of their matches.

Jones made unwanted headlines last week after he sent Forest defender Willy Boly off under controversial circumstances.

Boly was shown a second yellow card despite appearing to make a clean tackle on Bournemouth man Adam Smith.

Forest ended up losing 3-2 due to a late goal by Dominic Solanke.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Forest have lodged an official complaint and have written to Howard Webb to demand Jones be suspended from officiating their matches.

This is the second time the club have complained about Jones after they complained in August about Jones’ performance on VAR during their 3-2 defeat by Manchester United.

Speaking after the match, new Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo said: “Bad decision. Very bad decision. A decision that totally changed the nature of the game.

“It is more the frustration of knowing the approach of the referee is a bad one and the law says you cannot reverse the decision because it is two yellow cards. It is something they have to look at because it doesn’t make sense.

“First of all, the approach of the referee is bad. Boly has a first yellow card, which is fair, but then for the second the foot of Boly is under the foot of the Bournemouth player so the approach (from the referee) should be more cautious.”

He continued: “Wait a little bit for the help of an assistant or the help of VAR, hold your decision and they will tell you. But after that (the red card) he cannot reverse the decision.

“Our fans deserve better decisions. They come here to see football and suddenly they see something which really changes the game.

“The frustration is huge. All of us are upset at this. I went to speak to the referee. Yeah, I went in. But what can I say, what can we do? You have to respect them and try to support them. But it is a mistake, a huge mistake.”
