Sergio Aguero to come out of retirement to play in $1m tournament featuring current Man Utd star

Sergio Aguero will play football in a tournament this summer.

Sergio Aguero is set to come out of retirement, having entered a team in The Soccer Tournament - a $1 million winner-take-all event.

Aguero called time on his legendary career aged 31 back in 2021 on the advice of doctors due to a heart condition.

Before ending his playing days at Barcelona, the 35-year-old enjoyed a stunning spell at Manchester City, where he scored a club-record 260 goals in 390 appearances and won an impressive five Premier League titles.

He played just five games for the Catalan giants following his move from Man City before retiring from football.

But the Argentine is set to play in a 7 on 7 tournament, with a prize money of $1 million.

The tournament will take place from June 5-10 in Cary, North Carolina.

In a statement, TST founder and CEO Jon Mugar said: "We are ecstatic to welcome Sergio and his team to this year's field.

"Not only is he one of the best players of all time, but he's also one of the fiercest competitors ever. He's coming to Cary to have fun and compete, which is exactly what TST is all about."

The Blues icon has not yet announced who will play for his team, which is one of many high-profile teams in the 48-team men's field.

Professional football clubs will also take part in the tournament, including Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, League Two side Wrexham and Como 1907, who ply their trade in Serie B.

Aguero isn't the only former Premier League star to have his own team as ex-Manchester United winger Nani will play for his side - alongside former Man City and Liverpool forward Mario Balotelli.

What's more, current Man United player Tom Huddlestone will also take part in the tournament.

Huddlestone, 37, will play for Sire 7, who also boast Stephen Ireland, Ravel Morrison, Danny Simpson and Oumar Niasse.
