Bodycams worn as part of Wolves vs Spurs coverage, it's a gamechanger

The fixture between Wolves and Spurs made history on Saturday as bodycams were featured in a groundbreaking move.

The cameras were trialled in the summer during a friendly between Aston Villa and Newcastle in the United States, with both Youri Tielemans and Bruno Guimaraes mic'd up.

POV videos of their performances went viral on YouTube and the same technology has now been deployed in the top flight for the first time.

Current IFAB rules do not approve the use of the technology in competitive games and so the cameras were instead used in the warm-ups at Molineux.

Brennan Johnson and Max Kilman both put on the bodycams and added a new dimension to TNT Sports' coverage and build-up.

Johnson could be seen going through his paces and taking part in a shooting drill, while Wolves skipper Kilman motivated his teammates ahead of the clash.

The refreshing addition brought a whole new level of insight and was hailed by viewers and pundits alike.

TNT struck an agreement with the Premier League following the successful trials in the summer, which brought nearly 5 million views across two videos.

"Finding new ways to bring our fans closer to the action on the pitch is a key focus for us," Premier League Head of Media Operations and Innovation, Rachael Nightingale, said.

"After the success of the bodycam trials at the Premier League Summer Series, we are looking forward to seeing what results this test will deliver for TNT and our audiences around the world."

The AI-powered bodycams have been created by 2021 start-up company MindFly and are then attached to "ultralight" GPS vests underneath jerseys.

A small hole is cut in the chest area of the shirt and the shatterproof cameras take around two minutes to be wired and installed.

MindFly captured the antics of Manchester City goalkeeper Scott Carson during the Premier League trophy lift earlier this year.
