Jarrod Bowen helped set new Premier League record with West Ham hat-trick vs Brentford

Jarrod Bowen helped set new Premier League record with West Ham hat-trick vs Brentford

Bowen set a record with his hat-trick performance.

Jarrod Bowen broke a Premier League record when he scored a hat-trick for West Ham on Monday.

The Premier League is widely regarded as the best league in the world, and for good reason.

Even if some of the best players in the world play elsewhere, Premier League matches guarantee high intensity football, drama and goals.

That was certainly the case last weekend, when 32 goals were scored across nine games.

Matchday 26 concluded with West Ham's 4-2 defeat of Brentford, with Jarrod Bowen scoring a hat-trick to give David Moyes' side their first win of 2024 and end their eight-game winless run.

The match was also significant as the six goals scored set a new Premier League record.

Yoane Wissa's late consolation for Brentford took the number of goals scored in the top flight this month to 158 in 42 matches.

An average of 3.8 goals were scored per game in February 2024, the highest average goals per game in a month in Premier League history.

The other high-scoring games this month that helped break the record include Newcastle's 4-4 draw with Luton, Manchester United's 4-3 defeat to Wolves and Arsenal's 6-0 thrashing of West Ham.

The average goals per game record is not the only new benchmark to be set this month.

Phil Foden scored a hat-trick as Man City beat Brentford 3-1 at the start of the month, and his third strike was particularly significant.

Foden's cool finish past Mark Flekken in the 70th minute was the 45th goal scored of that weekend, the most goals ever scored across a Premier League weekend.

The previous record for the number of goals scored across one 10-game Premier League weekend was 44, set in September 2020. That tally was equalled at the start of May last season.
