A compilation of Paul Scholes' performance for Manchester United against Newcastle United in 2010 is currently trending online.

The video shows a 36 year old Scholes dictating the match with ease, firing a string of sublime passes across the pitch to others in a red shirt.

"Out of this world," one user tweeted in reply.

"Just look at how swift he releases the ball," another commented. "Our current midfielders will have way too many touches and eventually get intercepted."

"If someone ever slanders Paul Scholes ever again, I'll show them this video," a Manchester United fan remarked.

The Red Devils won the match 3-0, with Dimitar Berbatov and Darren Fletcher scoring goals in the first half before Ryan Giggs sealed the win late on with a magnificent volley, assisted by Scholes.

Scholes and his teammates would go on to win the Premier League title that season, their 4th triumph in 5 years.

For Scholes, this was his 10th title and (for a short while) seemingly his last. However, after hanging up his boots in August 2011, the Salford-born star was re-signed in January 2012 when the club were going through an injury crisis.

The midfielder made his second debut for United as a substitute in an FA Cup win away to Manchester City and scored his first goal back at Old Trafford in the club's next match against Bolton Wanderers.

The 66-time England international, who scored in all 19 of his seasons as a Premier League player, is widely considered to be one of the best players of his generation. Barcelona and Spain legend Xavi, who triumphed over Scholes in the 2009 and 2011 Champions League finals, believes that the latter is the finest midfielder of the last two decades.

"In the last 15 to 20 years the best central midfielder that I have seen- the most complete is- Scholes," the second-most decorated Spanish player in history told Daily Mail in 2011. "I have spoken with Xabi Alonso about this many times. Scholes is a spectacular player who has everything.

He can play the final pass, he can score, he is strong. He never gets knocked off the ball and he doesn't give possession away. If he had been Spanish then maybe he would have been valued more."
