The Manchester City star made an unconventional but brilliant choice.

It's been revealed that Manchester City star Phil Foden called his pet dog 'Carabao' after the sponsors of the League Cup.

That's according to a report by The Athletic, which claims that the Stockport-born midfielder bought and named the French bulldog the day after the 2020 League Cup Final victory against Aston Villa.

Since breaking into the City first team in 2017, Foden has enjoyed great success in the competition, lifting four consecutive crowns, a feat only previously managed by Liverpool in the early 1980s.

He was also on the scoresheet last night as The Citizens came from behind to beat League 1 side Wycombe Wanderers 6-1 at The Etihad.

Foden is not the only Premier League footballer to have a canine for company. Danny Ings, Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford are all known to have a dog or two.

The Sun also reported last year that many in the top flight have invested in guard dogs from a company called Chaperone K9. Clients include Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, ex-England internationals John Terry and Jermaine Jenas and West Ham legend Mark Noble.

"We were so impressed with our first Chaperone K9," he said, as quoted by the paper. "We had to get a second."

Whilst these dogs may be a bit tougher than Foden's pet, do they have as good a name as Carabao?

I doubt it.
