Thierry Henry has revealed which three number 9's he considers to be the best in this year's Champions League.

The Frenchman, who scored 50 goals in the competition for Monaco, Arsenal and Barcelona, was speaking during CBS' live coverage of last night's matches alongside Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards.

The 44 year old claims the list was 'easy' to compile.

"(Robert) Lewandowski," he replied when asked who his first choice was, as quoted by The Mirror. "Why? He's been doing it for a long time, one of the best predators that I've seen in the game.

"You have to respect that because those guys will tell you; longevity, winning and scoring is not easy at that level."

The two-time Premier League winner revealed that Karim Benzema, who became the first player to score in 17 successive Champions League seasons with his goal against Sheriff Tiraspol on Tuesday, also made the cut.

"Because, I think for me, he is the most complete striker in the world," Henry said when questioned about his choice. "Complete doesn't mean your the best.

"He has answered the call since Cristiano Ronaldo left. He has won the Champions League so many times and that's good enough I think for number two."

At the top of Henry's list was Manchester United's new number 7, whom he described as 'the master'.

"Number one is the master Ronaldo," the ex-Monaco manager said. "You have to give this guy a lot of credit. Because simply what he has done in the national team, what he's doing right now for United, what he was even doing for Juventus, Real Madrid obviously, United before.

"It is second to none. If you are talking about a nine, you have to give it to him. It is respect. Right now, he is still delivering."

Carragher, a former Champions League winner himself, wasn't sure about the choices and suggested that Henry had chosen that trio based on historical rather than current form, something the latter hit back at.

"If I am a sporting director and you're asking who is still delivering and scoring goals, those guys are," Henry explained. "If you are telling me I am a sporting director looking at the future of a club, maybe I will go for a (Erling) Haaland because I'm thinking for the future of a club.

"But if you're telling me now, who are the best, those are the best.

"Right now, Ronaldo finished top scorer of Serie A, Benzema is he scoring goals right now? Yes, he is. Lewandowski is he scoring goals right now? Yes, he is."

We shall see whether Lewandowski and Ronaldo are more successful than Benzema was last night when Bayern Munich take on Dynamo Kyiv and Manchester United lock horns with Villareal this evening.
