Barcelona legend Dani Alves has warned clubs not to break the bank on signing Erling Haaland and believes it would be better spent on Kylian Mbappe.

Haaland and Mbappe are two of European football's most in-demand players and the pair could both be on the move this summer.

Mbappe, 23, is out of contract at Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the season and has been strongly linked with Real Madrid, who had a €200m (£171.7m) bid for the France international rejected last summer.

Madrid are also interested in Haaland, who has a £63m release clause in his current contract with Borussia Dortmund, while Manchester City have also been linked with the striker.

When asked to name his preferred signing out of the pair, Alves had no doubts over which player he would pick.

"I wouldn't throw everything at Haaland," Alves told Spanish outlet Sport.

"Honestly, I wouldn't spend a lot of money on him. On Mbappe, yes, but not Haaland.

"I'm playing as a sporting director here, but I'd bet on Mbappe first. He seems more complete in every aspect.

"If you're going to make a huge investment, you have to do it on the best. If it was up to me, I'd bet on Mbappe."

Mbappe has scored 160 goals in 209 games for PSG since joining from Monaco in 2017.

Haaland, meanwhile, has already managed 80 goals in just 84 games since signing for Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2020.

Both strikers have also been linked with a move to Barcelona this summer.

However, club president Joan Laporta recently admitted the Catalan club is unlikely to be able to afford either player.

"The economic conditions that I've been told these two deals would cost...we'd never accept to spend those figures. No way," he said.

"I see both of them really far from Barcelona."
