Isaac Hayden Sent Off For Horror Challenge On Dennis Praet

The Newcastle United midfielder went off shouting that he'd won the ball but there was little doubt about the colour of the card.

Isaac Hayden was sent off in the first half of Newcastle United's game with Leicester City after a 'leg breaker' of a challenge on Dennis Praet.

The ball broke free near Leicester's box just before half time and Hayden flew into the challenge with Praet. The Newcastle midfielder was first to the ball but in his follow through he went studs up straight into the opposition player.

Craig Pawson barely needed time to think before rightly producing the red card, with the Belgian midfielder lucky to get up with his legs still in tact.

Hayden could be seen walking off the pitch asking 'what's the point in playing,' aimed at the fourth official even though VAR backed the referees decision, and some on social media agreed the red card was a sign the game had gone soft.

In the Sky Sports studio though even the tough tackling old school former Liverpool player Graeme Souness agreed that the referee was right to show the red card.

The sending off left the Magpies in a tough position. They spent the first half under the cosh from their hosts and Ricardo Pereira had put them 1-0 up with a brilliant goal.

Pereira played a brilliant one-two with Ayoze Perez just inside the Newcastle half and then went marauding forward on his own, cutting inside, and slotting a shot beautifully into the bottom corner.

Before the game on Sunday, Newcastle have won just once in the league this season - away to Spurs - and look in trouble already at the end of September.
