Frankfurt Midfielder Shows Off Stitches After Boot To The Face

Frankfurt Midfielder Shows Off Stitches After Boot To The Face

Sebastian Rode was on the wrong end of boot from John Lundstram in the opening minutes of the game and needed to be bandaged up.

Sebastian Rode has shown off the impacts of his run in with John Lundstram's studs, after the Rangers star booted the midfielder in the head.

The Europa League final was mere minutes old when the first slight controversy of the match happened, as hero of the semi final Lundstram attempted to win a ball that was off the ground.

As his studs went up to control the ball, Rode's head came down to head it and inevitably the two made contact, leaving the German in some pain.

There was some surprise that there was no yellow card for the Rangers' player, with some even claiming that it could have been a very early bath for him, just six minutes into the game.

Rode on the other hand had to be bandaged up, and did an excellent Terry Butcher/Paul Ince/whatever your reference is in being fully bandaged up for the entire game.

Now he's shown off the stitches he had to have in the top of his head, and it's fair to say it shows Lundstram's attempt to win the ball could have definitely been seen as dangerous enough for a red.

"The main thing is to get the thing!!! Everything else doesn't matter," the German posted on Twitter, having helped his team win 'the thing.'

Rode played on for the 90 minutes of the game, as Rangers took the lead through Joe Aribo in the second half, only for Rafael Borre to equalise late on.

He was substituted at the end of the 90, with Kristijan Jakic replacing him for extra time, as Frankfurt went on to win the game on penalties.

Lundstram on the other hand ended up playing the full 120 minutes of the game, though he wasn't picked to step up in the shoot out.

Some fans thought the midfielder should have been given his marching orders after just five minutes however.

After picking up his winner's medal, it's unlikely Rode will care either way right now.
