Watch: Benjamin Mendy Forgets Ligament Injury To Wildly Celebrate Sterling Winner

"Ruptured ACL, but who cares?"

He may have a ruptured ACL and be at least another five months away from playing first team football again, but even a long term injury couldn't stop Manchester City full-back Benjamin Mendy wildly celebrating Raheem Sterling's 96th minute winner against Southampton, last night.

The former Monaco defender has made just five appearances for City this term after rupturing knee ligaments during a Premier League clash with Crystal Palace in September.

However, in his short time with the club, Mendy has already become a cult hero for his various postings on social media.

And last night, a video of the 23-year-old went viral as he hobbled onto the pitch to celebrate with the rest of his teammates in the aftermath of Raheem Sterling's dramatic late winner against the Saints, which kept Pep Guardiola's men eight points clear of second place Manchester United at the top of the league table.

City looked to be on the verge of dropping their first league points since August after Oriol Romeu's 76th minute strike cancelled out Kevin de Bruyne's opener. But, as he so often has been this season, Sterling was on hand to curl home a wonderful last minute winner to ensure all three points remained in Manchester.

City have taken 40 points from their opening 14 games of the 2017/18 campaign, winning 13 and drawing just once, scoring 44 goals in the process. Somebody pray for David Moyes' West Ham team who make the journey to the Etihad Stadium, this weekend.
