Gabriel Jesus Scores 90 Seconds Into His Arsenal Debut

Gabriel Jesus Scores 90 Seconds Into His Arsenal Debut

The Brazilian has wasted no time to open his account for Arsenal.

New Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus took just 90 seconds to score his first Arsenal goal.

The Brazilian completed a £45 million deal last week as he left Manchester City to reunite with Mikel Arteta at Arsenal.

The Gunners were in action in their first pre season game ahead of the new season.

They got off to a horrendous start, they were 2-0 down against German second tier side FC Nuremberg after goals from Johannes Geis and Kwadwo Duah.

Jesus started on the bench but was subbed on at half time, and in the 46th minute, the Arsenal number 9 picked up a lose ball and drove towards the German side’s defence. After playing a neat one two with his team mate, he lashed in a beautiful finish at the near post into the roof of the net.

An incredible start for Jesus as he looks to establish himself as the main man at Arsenal after having to play second fiddle at City due to club legend Sergio Aguero

Seven minutes later Arsenal drew level after Mohamed Elneny scored a beautiful long range shot from almost 25 yards out. The shot fizzed into the top corner, Nuremberg keeper Christian Mathenia dived in despair as the ball flew passed him like a rocket.

But the day was all about Jesus who could have had his second goal in the 58th minute. Gabriel Martinelli crossed from the left hand side with the ball destined for Jesus to head home his second, but a boot from the Nuremberg defender took the ball away from Jesus as it went down as an own goal.

The Brazilian eventually did score his second Gunners goal in the 75th minute. The ball was curled in from the left hand side by Martinelli and Jesus showed great movement to get across his marker as he flicked in at the near post. A brilliant move finished beautifully by Arsenal’s new man. Arteta's side eventually won the game 5-3 as they made a winning start to their pre season.

Jesus decided to make the move to Arsenal in search for regular game time, something that wasn’t guaranteed at the Etihad club.

Arteta has been longing for a clinical striker after the departures of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

Arsenal fans took to social media to react to Jesus’ lightning debut but were not getting too carried away due to the match being just a pre season friendly.

One fan tweeted: “Signs of good things to come! It’s only a friendly tho.”

Another fan said: “I know it’s a pre season friendly but What A Finish!”

And a third bravely predicted that Jesus will score more goals than City’s new striker, Erling Haaland, the fan said: “Unpopular opinion: he'll outscore Haaland in the league.”

A promising start but a long way to go. Will Jesus be a hit at Arsenal as they look to break back into the top four? Only time will tell.
