Gareth Southgate Explains Why He's DROPPED Jadon Sancho From England Squad

Gareth Southgate has explained why he has DROPPED Manchester United star Jadon Sancho from the England squad. 

Sancho has starred for Man United since the turn of the new year, scoring against Southampton and Manchester City while setting up Cristiano Ronaldo against Tottenham.

Despite his impressive recent run of form, Sancho has been snubbed of a spot in the England team. 

Instead, Southgate has opted for the likes of Jack Grealish, Phil Foden, Raheem Sterling, Emile Smith Rowe​ and Bukayo Saka.

​According to the Three Lions boss, those attacking players are 'slightly ahead' of Sancho. 

"The other attacking players in the squad are slightly ahead of him in our feeling," he explained.

"Jadon over the last few weeks his performances have improved but it’s an area of the field we’ve got big competition for places."​

There's also no room for Sancho's Man United teammate Marcus Rashford, who has struggled for form this season.

But there's a first call-up for Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi while Conor Gallagher and Ben White have been recalled by Southgate.

England host Switzerland on March 26 then entertain Ivory Coast on March 29.
