Gary Neville Slams Manchester United Owners Over Christian Eriksen Transfer Struggles

Gary Neville Slams Manchester United Owners Over Christian Eriksen Transfer Struggles

Christian Eriksen is a free agent after leaving Brentford at the end of the 21/22 season.

Gary Neville has ripped into the Manchester United owners over the transfer of Christian Eriksen, with the club yet to agree a deal with the free agent.

The former United player has again criticised the Glazer family for taking money out of the club in the form of dividends, whilst the team is struggling on the pitch, struggling so much that players are having doubts over joining the 20 times champions of England.

New boss Erik ten Hag is looking to build a squad that is capable of mounting and sustaining a real charge for the top honours.

Despite the likes of Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata leaving, the club haven’t been able to get any new players in as of yet.

United were interested in striker Darwin Nunez but the Uruguayan chose to move to Liverpool instead. Long standing interests in Eriksen and Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong haven’t materialised into any agreements.

Sky Sports pundit Neville took to social media to express his discontent, and urged the Glazer family to stop paying dividends to shareholders until the team improves on the pitch.

He said on Twitter: “That’s why dividends have to stop for a period, Every penny has to go back into the club until it becomes attractive again. The club has become a graveyard for players. Culturally for owners to take cash out of a poorly performing business is demoralising!”

Eriksen, 30, is a free agent after his short term contract with Brentford expired at the end of the 21/22 campaign. During his short spell with Thomas Frank’s side, he showed exactly what he is capable of, a string of impressive performances helped the Bees secure Premier League status for the upcoming season.

The Danish international joined Brentford in January after leaving Inter Milan, he left Italy after a cardioverter defibrillator device was fitted to him after his cardiac arrest in last summer’s Euro 2020 match between Denmark and Finland.

And now, it has been widely reported that Eriksen has offers on the table from both Brentford and United. United’s offer is said to be more financially lucrative, but the player is believed to be settled in London.

Time is ticking and the new season is fast approaching, United will need to pick up the pace if they are to secure their targets before the season starts.

As for Eriksen's next destination, only time will tell.
