Joao Moutinho Scores Wonder Strike For Wolves Against Arsenal

Joao Moutinho scored an absolutely brilliant long range strike for Wolves against Arsenal on Tuesday night, to give his side the lead.

It's not been Wolves best season so far and before kick off sat in 14th place in the league, whilst Arsenal's recent good run of form was slowed slightly by Manchester United on the weekend.

Mikel Arteta's side started the strongest and were unlucky not to go ahead when Bukayo Saka was adjudged to have been offside by VAR. They soon went ahead though through Nicolas Pepe's excellent goal.

The midlands' side did start to find footing in the game but it still looked like the Gunners would head into the break ahead.

That was until David Luiz brought down new signing Willian Jose in the box and was sent off for his troubles, with Ruben Neves slotting home the equaliser from the spot.

Neves might be best known for his long range goals at Molineux but it was his fellow midfielder Moutinho who hit a special strike on Tuesday.

The Portuguese midfielder, who'd previously never scored at home for the team, found the back of the net by beating Bernd Leno with a superb long range strike.

Things got even worse for Mikel Arteta's side in the 72nd minute, as they were reduced to nine men, with goalkeeper Leno also receiving his marching orders.

The keeper came running out of his box to beat a Wolves player to a long ball and ended up handling the ball outside of his area.

Arteta will be without both of his sent off players when they come up against Aston Villa at the weekend, with Dean Smith's side currently one point ahead of the north London side.

In a slightly ironic plot point, Villa will likely line up with Emi Martinez in goal, having left the Emirates Stadium for the midlands last summer.

Martinez finally got the chance to be Arsenal's number one when Leno was injured at the end of last season but the German's return to fitness ended the Argentine's chances to be number one.

Arteta let him go to be a number one elsewhere and he has flourished as first choice.
