Antonio Conte rings Harry Kane after he becomes Tottenham's record goalscorer

Antonio Conte rings Harry Kane after he becomes Tottenham's record goalscorer

Antonio Conte was sidelined for Spurs' win over Manchester City but made sure to call his talisman Harry Kane in the dressing room.

Antonio Conte called Harry Kane in the dressing room after he became Tottenham's record goalscorer on Sunday.

Kane struck his 267th goal for Spurs to move one ahead of the legendary Jimmy Greaves and also notched his 200th in the Premier League.

Early on Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg seized on a sloppy pass from Rodri outside the box and fed Kane, who slotted past Ederson for the only goal of the game.

Kane, who came from the ranks at the North London club, celebrated wildly after reaching the iconic milestone.

Conte was not on the touchline for the victory after undergoing gallbladder surgery, with assistant Cristian Stellini taking charge of the fixture.

But while recovering in hospital back in his native Italy, the 53-year-old made sure to call his talisman and congratulate him on an incredible achievement.

Speaking to Kane over the phone in the dressing room, Conte could be heard telling the England skipper, “You make me so proud”.

Kane had a special presentation in front of his fans at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and couldn't hide his delight.

“To do it in front of the fans is a special moment," Kane told Sky Sports.

"There has been so much talk about it, I just wanted to get it done. So, to do it in a big game against one of the best teams in the world is special.

"When I started playing regularly, it wasn’t even in my imagination to score 200 Premier League goals. To be there now is exciting and I’ve got plenty of years left, so there will be a few more to come.”

Teammate Heung-Min Son backed "very hungry" Kane to break the Premier League goals record, with the 29-year-old 60 goals away from Alan Shearer's tally.

His first strike for Spurs came against Shamrock Rovers in 2011 before going on to get off the mark in the Premier League three years later.

But he had "one season wonder" taunts to contend with after his stunning breakthrough 2014/15 campaign, where he bagged 21 goals.

Kane hit back at the critics after becoming Spurs' record scorer, posting the quote alongside an image of him celebrating.
