Tottenham told they will be relegation contenders if Harry Kane leaves this summer

Jamie O'Hara discussed the England skipper's potential exit from Spurs on talkSPORT.

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie O’Hara has claimed that if Harry Kane decides to leave the club in the near future, the North London team could face a relegation battle next season.

O’Hara appeared on the Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT and told host Laura Woods that he hopes for Spurs’ sake that the England skipper stays.

“Well look, obviously we all hope that he sticks around and signs a new contract," he said.

“Because Lara, without Harry Kane, I seriously think we could be fighting relegation next season.”

The brutal answer shocked Woods, which prompted the 36-year-old to further explain his point.

He stated: “We are that bad without him. We have been solely dependent on Harry Kane to score us goals and do stuff for us.

“And I think the lack of ambition that we’ve shown and the players that we’ve signed that haven’t been good enough, if he leaves, we are in big, big, trouble.

“And I feel like he’s got to leave, why would he stay,” the ex-footballer ploughed on. “The guy wants to win something, the guy deserves to win trophies. I just don’t see that changing next season.”

Doubling down on his line of thinking, O’Hara then said if the 29-year-old striker does decide to pen a new contract with the team, then he potentially “lacks ambition.”

“Let’s be honest. If he doesn’t want to leave and a club does come for him and Spurs go, ‘You know what, we will probably look at having to sell you’.

“And he doesn’t go to - let’s say Manchester United - then I think he lacks ambition.”

Kane completed the majority of his youth career at Spurs and has been part of the senior squad since 2009.

During his time at the club, he’s completed various loan spells with the likes of Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City and Leicester City.

However, after years of service, the England captain has just a single season left on his six-year contract.

If Kane decides not to sign on for another Premier League season, then he will depart as a free agent next summer.

ESPN report that the Tottenham No.10 has previously been linked to European superclubs such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, as well as United.
