Analysts Calculate How Much Cristiano Ronaldo Increases Manchester United's Likelihood Of Silverware

Analysts Calculate How Much Cristiano Ronaldo Increases Manchester United's Likelihood Of Silverware

Omar Choudhuri of The Twenty First Group has been looking at how Ronaldo improves Manchester United's probability of success this season.

The question on everyone's lips since Ronaldo re-signed for Manchester United has been 'is it enough for them to rival neighbours Manchester City?'

Well, according to Omar Choudhari they are now better positioned to do so, not just in the Premier League but also on the European stage.

Whilst Ronaldo took his international goal tally to 111 for Portugal last night - a world record - you cannot forget he was also the top scorer in Serie A last season with 29 goals in a Juventus team that finished in 4th position, 13 points a drift of champions Inter Milan.

That in itself tells you that United will be stronger ahead of this campaign and with 35 league games remaining as well as a Champions League journey and the two domestic cups to come, Choudhari, who works as a chief intelligence officer for Twenty First Group, has looked at every aspect of his potential contribution to their team, and what impact he can make on the outcome of matches.

"Our models estimate that Ronaldo's arrival at Manchester United increases their chances of winning the league by five percentage points, from 7 percent to 12 percent,' said Chaudhuri: "His arrival has also boosted their Champions League chances, from 5 percent to 8 percent.

The Red Devils finished runners-up last season, 12 points behind City who won it. But we all know what Ronaldo is like. A born match winner. We seen this in last night's game against Ireland. He is one of a few players in the world who can turn a game on its head.

Choudhari told MailSport: "While these may seem like small increases, they are big in relative terms - the odds of United lifting at least one of these two major trophies has increased from 12 percent to 19 percent, or a roughly 1-in-8 chance to a roughly 1-in-5 chance."
