Ian Wright pitches 'audacious player-plus-cash deal' that Manchester United should make for Harry Kane

Arsenal legend Ian Wright believes Tottenham striker Harry Kane would make a significant impact on Erik ten Hag's Manchester United side.

Ian Wright has urged Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag to make a stunning player-plus-cash offer for Tottenham striker Harry Kane in the summer window.

United have been in sensational form since the end of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, with the Red Devils winning seven of their last nine competitive matches.

The Red Devils’ undefeated eight-match run came to an end on the weekend after Arsenal’s thrilling 3-2 Premier League win at the Emirates.

Ten Hag has been left short of strikers this season, despite United climbing back into the Premier League top four.

United signed Wout Weghorst from Burnley on loan in the January transfer window after Cristiano Ronaldo’s sensational exit from Old Trafford.

Ten Hag has also been forced to rely on Anthony Martial as a striking option, but the Frenchman’s consistency and proneness to injury is a concern for the United boss.

Kane, who has previously been linked with United, is out of contract with Spurs in 2024 and could be tempted with a move away from the north London club.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy could be forced to lower his asking price for the 29-year-old England striker if Kane turns down a new contract with Spurs.

Speaking on The Ringer’s Wrighty’s House podcast, Arsenal hero Wright believes Martial could be used as a makeweight in a player-plus-£60m deal for Kane.

“If Man United came now, [for] Harry Kane with a year left, let’s say they put £60m on the table and we’ll throw in someone, Martial, whatever… it’s a very good deal,” he said.

“If Man United have got any serious thinking about what we need to do next, it’s a No 9. It seems like a no-brainer that Harry Kane is the person [they should sign]. He takes them somewhere else.”

Wright added: “Spurs fans will say, ‘You know what, good luck, Harry.’”

Wright claimed that Weghorst “wasn’t a threat” for United in the Arsenal clash and pointed to Eddie Nketiah’s impact as one of the “main differences” between the sides.

“One of the main differences was Eddie Nketiah, a No 9,” he explained.

“That’s what Man United didn’t have, because they had Weghorst up there but he wasn’t a threat if we’re going to be totally honest, he was not a threat.

“When you’re looking at Man United’s trajectory at the minute and where they’re moving, get Harry Kane for three years.

“United will definitely do something because they’re not a million miles away right now.”
