England fans think Jack Grealish 'invented' his own slang in interview ahead of Wales game

England fans think Jack Grealish 'invented' his own slang in interview ahead of Wales game

The Manchester City star is the gift that keeps on giving.

England fans think Jack Grealish has created a new phrase ahead of England's World Cup clash with Wales.

Gareth Southgate's side are currently top of Group B and will secure passage to the round of 16 if they avoid a four-goal defeat at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium.

The Three Lions defeated Iran 6-2 in their opening group game before labouring to a 0-0 draw against the USMNT.

Grealish came off the bench in both games, grabbing the final goal against Iran.

The nation's optimism for the tournament has taken a hit after failing to score on Friday evening. Grealish busted out an unfamiliar idiom.

He told talkSPORT: "I think there was a big overreaction. I think we're still apart from Spain, the top scorers in the tournament maybe," Grealish told talkSPORT.

"I can't think off the top of my head if there is anyone that has scored more than six.

'The other day against Iran we were the best thing since sliced veg, scoring six goals and then we go a game without scoring.

"I think there was a bit of an overreaction, but that's what you get sometimes, playing for England."

Usually, the phrase is 'best thing since sliced bread' rather than veg. The clip has gone viral on social media, with supporters convinced he said 'veg'. Check out the video for yourself below.

One person commented: "Finally, someone else who made a similar mistake as me."

Another said: "Grealish is the gift that keeps on giving."

A third put: "A petition to make this the official saying."

While another tweeted: "I think he was dared to say this personally."

Grealish also touched on Southgate's decision to leave Phil Foden on the bench against the USMNT.

Southgate opted to replace Bukayo Saka and Raheem Sterling with Grealish and Marcus Rashford respectively in an attempt to change the game.

Foden has scored eight goals this season including a hat-trick against Manchester United last month.

Grealish continued: "With the Phil thing, we all know how good Phil is, but there is a lot of players in them forward positions that all bring different stuff, different attributes, and I'm sure Phil will get his chance.

"Hopefully he does, he's been training well, but it's up to the manager. He does have options in them attacking positions."
