Jack Grealish praised for 'honest' and 'refreshing' post-match interview about his current form

Jack Grealish praised for 'honest' and 'refreshing' post-match interview about his current form

The Manchester City star has attracted criticism for not contributing enough goals or assists.

Far from just impressing on the pitch against Wolves on Saturday, Jack Grealish has been praised for his honesty during a post-match TV interview.

Playing back in his native West Midlands, the former Aston Villa man scored the opening goal of the game in Manchester City's 3-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

Since joining City last summer for ยฃ100 million, Grealish has struggled to contribute with a regular flow of goals and assists, unlike some of his positional rivals.

However, this is something the 27-year-old freely admits, just as he did to BT Sport's Des Kelly after his side's victory at Molineux.

He told Kelly: [The goal] was a long time coming actually, I haven't scored since the West Ham game at the back end of last season."

"It was just nice to get off the mark for this season, to do it so early, and to get the three points at what is a difficult place to come against a top, top team as well".

For Grealish, the task now is to add goals and assists to his game, as - by his own estimations - he's never been especially prolific.

He added: "I should be scoring more, I should be getting more assists. But yeah the only thing I can do is score and get assists. You know, I'm always going to have people talking about me with the amount I got brought for."

"But if you look at my whole career I probably haven't scored as much as certain people, even when I was at Aston Villa I think I only scored 14 or 15 goals over the two seasons in the Premier League."

"it's something that I do want to add to my game, and playing for this team, and in front of these fans hopefully I can."

His comments received plenty of support on Twitter, with many people expressing how refreshing it was to hear a Premier League footballer speaking so candidly.

One Twitter wrote: "Very honest", while a Villa fan added: "Still hope he succeeds, great bloke and did so much for avfc. Feel he is still held back at city by peps tactics he needs freedom."

City's 3-0 win at Wolves propelled them to the top of the Premier League table, although its worth noting that Pep Guardiola's side have played one game more than Arsenal and Spurs who are just behind.

In a move that was the subject of intense scrutiny, Grealish was called up to the England squad this week at the expense of the in-form Jadon Sancho.
