Man Utd could sell James Garner for just £14 million, four teams have shown interest

Man Utd could sell James Garner for just £14 million, four teams have shown interest

United fans wanted Garner to get a chance this season.

Manchester United have decided to sell midfielder James Garner and he could leave the club for a sum as low as £14 million.

The 21-year-old spent last season on loan at Nottingham Forest and helped them achieve promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs.

Many United fans hoped he'd get a chance ahead of the new campaign, but manager Erik ten Hag has decided he should be allowed to leave.

Per The Athletic, Garner is valued at £14 million and Everton, Southampton and Leeds United have registered their interest.

Tottenham Hotspur have also watched the England youth international.

Returning to Forest on loan is out of the question as they've already loaned in Dean Henderson from United and they've bolstered their midfield too.

Garner played 22 minutes of United's pre-season tour in Thailand and Australia after suffering an injury, but started against Rayo Vallecano in July.

He's made seven appearances for the first-team since being handed his debut by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in February 2019.

When asked about his preferred position by the Manchester Evening News, he replied: "Personally, I’m not too fussed if I play as a six or eight.

"Throughout the academy I played as a deeper lying six.

"People maybe questioned whether could I score and create but when I got to the (under) 21s I showed I could also play box to box.

"This season I’ve played as a six, eight and in the No 10 position. For me, I enjoy six or eight as long as I’m playing.

"In the academy, I was always a centre-back at six or seven but got moved into midfield and it went from there. I’m enjoying my time."

Central midfield has been a weakness for United in recent seasons, with Fred and Scott McTominay frequently criticised.

Both started in the 2-1 defeat to Brighton and McTominay was dropped from the starting XI for Saturday's 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Brentford.

McTominay then replaced Fred at halftime with the game effectively over.
