James Maddison's deleted old tweets about 'disliking' Spurs emerge ahead of potential move

James Maddison's deleted old tweets about 'disliking' Spurs emerge ahead of potential move

Two posts about Spurs and Gareth Bale have gone viral on Twitter.

A number of tweets that appear to have been posted by a young James Maddison have emerged ahead of his £40 million move to Spurs this summer.

Maddison, who suffered Premier League relegation with Leicester City last season, has been heavily linked with Newcastle and Spurs.

In fact, the 26-year-old attacking midfielder, who has notched 55 goals and 41 assists in 203 appearances for the Foxes since joining in 2018, has been a Newcastle target for some time.

Eddie Howe's side submitted a bid in the region of £50million for Maddison in August but the offer was turned down, with the Foxes being 'reluctant to sell' at that stage, according to The Guardian.

There has once again been strong interest from the Newcastle camp in recent weeks but it looks like Spurs have won the race to sign Maddison, with a medical scheduled for Wednesday.

He will join the North London club in a £40million deal, say widespread reports.

The former Coventry and Norwich midfielder will become Ange Postecoglou's first major signing if he does sign on the dotted line.

Some fans, meanwhile, are sharing Spurs-related posts that have since been removed from Maddison's Twitter account, according to the Daily Mail.

One post from 2012 reads: "I hate Gareth Bale with a passion, calm down you monkey, [Jack] Wilshere is 10x better than you chimpanzee."

While another says: "Hope Luis Suarez destroys Tottenham today, don't like Spurs! Especially that monkey everyone's on about!"

As you can see from the above Twitter post, one fan suggests the club should recreate their signing announcement for Matt Doherty.

In the video, Doherty deletes tweets from 2012 and 2013, when he declared his love for North London rivals Arsenal. One read: "I love Arsenal forever and ever and ever."

The majority of Spurs fans are certainly optimistic about the prospect of signing Maddison.

TalkSPORT host Trevor Sinclair believes the England international is a great signing for the Premier League side.

“Historically Tottenham have always had a ball-playing midfielder," he said. "Someone who can hold onto the ball, who is technical, can look after it and try things, not be too safe, and I think that’s James Maddison.

“I think he would be a massive addition for them, for anyone in the league as a squad player, but for Spurs I think he could go right in there and be a starter.”

He added: “From what I hear, Ange Postecoglou impresses him. But he’s got to understand that if he wants to play for Postecoglou at Spurs, he’s got to work off the ball as well, not just on it.

“That’s an area where I feel if he wants to get to the next level he could work harder off the ball, so if he wants to go and work for Postecoglou he’s got to put in the hard yards.”
