The story of how England players almost got KIDNAPPED at the 2014 Brazil World Cup

James Milner has revealed an incredible story of how he and another England player wer nearly kidnapped during the World Cup in Brazil in 2014.

Milner was part of Roy Hodgson's squad for the tournament in South America and it wasn't one of England's memorable World Cup's; if anything, it was one of their most forgettable.

The Three Lions came bottom of what was an incredibly tough group alongside Italy, Uruguay and Costa Rica.

Shockingly, Costa Rica topped the group, and Uruguay joined them in the knockout stages, as Italy and England headed home.

However, Milner has now revealed that there was one notable moment from the tournament, as he shared an exclusive with Ben Foster, in an interview conducted on Amazon Prime Sport.

The story revolves around a few of the players who were playing golf during their down time, and Milner found himself playing with former Everton defender Phil Jagielka.

As Milner explains, they ran out of time to finish the full course, so while a few of the other players headed back, they agreed to finish up the last two holes and walk back.

It was then that the nearly-kidnapping took place.

"We’ve come out of the gate, the gate shut behind us. We’re walking down the street and turn around and there’s a group of guys, and we’re glancing and we’re walking a bit quicker, and they’re walking a bit quicker." Milner recounted.

"Then they start jogging, so we start running and I’m like, ‘we’re in trouble in here’ so we’re running down and next thing, a car pulls up next to us, so I’m like, we’re getting kidnapped, it’s game over.

"The doors slide open and it’s the boys shouting ‘Quick, get in!’ then we’re on the move back to the hotel."

Luckily, the two players remained unharmed, but that scare can't have helped with their preparations at the tournament.

The Liverpool midfielder has since gone onto reach a landmark 600 Premier League appearances, and the 36-year-old will be hoping to break Gareth Barry's PL appearance record of 653 games before he hangs up the boots.

Whilst Jagielka is still going strong at 40 years old, playing in the Championship with Stoke City.

Milner will return to action with Liverpool in their Round of 16 EFL Cup tie tonight against Manchester City.
