Jamie Carragher Names His Premier League Signing Of The Season So Far

"He’s a personality, he’s a character."

Jamie Carragher named his Premier League signing of the season so far on Monday Night Football, and it's a big shout.

Carragher and Gary Neville handed out their half-season awards following the 1-1 draw between Newcastle United and Manchester United.

They picked their team of the season so far, the team that will avoid the drop and their best transfer so far.

And both Sky Sports pundits selected goalkeepers, with the Liverpool legend opting for Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale while the ex-Man United captain went for Wolves' Jose Sa.

Ramsdale joined the Gunners from Sheffield United in a transfer worth £18.5 million.

Mikel Arteta's decision to snap up Ramsdale surprised a few people, including Carragher who hailed the England international's impact at the club.

He highlighted his presence and character, with the 23-year-old producing heroics between the sticks.

On Ramsdale, Carragher said: "I went for Ramsdale because it was almost a big surprise to me.

"When they brought him in, I thought they’d bring him in as back-up or because he was English player, for the quota.

"He hadn’t impressed me in his Premier League time at Sheffield United and Bournemouth.

"It’s not just the saves he’s made, he’s a personality, he’s a character.

"To go in the dressing room at Arsenal, yes there’s young players there but it’s still a huge club, going in as a young lad, a goalkeeper.

"He’s got a presence about him that I didn’t see that he had, he’s had a big impact on the team."

Ramsdale has played 16 of his side's 19 league games after initially playing second-fiddle to Bernd Leno.

He's becoming a fan favourite at the Emirates with his performances in goal and his brilliant sh*thousery
