Jesse Lingard Joins Nottingham Forest On One-Year Deal After Leaving Manchester United

Lingard will remain in the Premier League despite offers from abroad.

Former Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard has signed a one-year deal with Nottingham Forest.

Lingard, 29, joins as a free agent after leaving United at the end of last season when his contract expired at Old Trafford.

West Ham, Newcastle and a number of MLS sides had been linked with the England international but he has now signed a short-term deal with Forest, who were promoted to the Premier League after beating Huddersfield in the Championship play-off final in May.

The midfielder confirmed the move by posting a video of himself in a Forest scarf to his Twitter account, alongside the caption: "Ready for my new chapter. let’s gooo babyyyyyy @NFFC #nottinghamforest."

Lingard will now travel with Steve Cooper's squad to Germany on Friday ahead of a pre-season friendly against Union Berlin on Saturday, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein.

Meanwhile, The Guardian claim Lingard could be set to earn as much as £200,000 per week at The City Ground.

Forest supporters have reacted positively to the news of Lingard's arrival.

"I love you, welcome to Nottingham," wrote one fan on Twitter.

Another added: "You'll love it here mate, welcome!!!"

Lingard becomes Forest’s 11th senior signing of the summer transfer window.

He links up with his former United teammate Dean Henderson, who joined the club on a season-long loan from the Red Devils earlier this month.
