Nottingham Forest Told Jesse Lingard's Wages 'May Wreck Their Dressing Room'

Nottingham Forest Told Jesse Lingard's Wages 'May Wreck Their Dressing Room'

"My only worry is, this may wreck the dressing room."

Nottingham Forest have been told Jesse Lingard's reported wage could 'wreck' their dressing room.

The England international signed a one-year deal with newly-promoted Forest on Thursday and he will be the highest-earner in their history.

Initial reports claimed the former Manchester United midfielder would be earning a whopping £200,000-per-week at the City Ground.

Sources have since said the true figure is closer to £130,000-per-week plus bonuses.

Lingard turned down the chance to return to West Ham United, who he spent half a season on loan with 18 months ago, and it could be a real coup for Steve Cooper's side.

TalkSPORT host Alan Brazil is unsure about the transfer however and believes the 29-year-old's pay packet could cause friction.

"My only worry is, this may wreck the dressing room," he declared.

"It shouldn’t because you should be happy with what you’re earning. Your contract is your contract.

"Say you have been promoted with Nottingham Forest, and you’re on £40,000 and someone comes in on £200,000 [the fee Lingard was reported to be earning], surely this is not good for morale."

Many believed Lingard would be keen to return to West Ham, after scoring nine goals in 16 appearances during the 20/21 season.

Instead he becomes Forest's 11th signing of the summer as they look to make an impact in their first Premier League campaign in 23 years.

Joining Lingard on permanent deals are Taiwo Awoniyi, Neco Williams, Moussa Niakhate, Giulian Biancone, Omar Richards, Lewis O'Brien, Harry Toffolo, Brandon Aguilera and Wayne Hennessey.

Dean Henderson has also arrived on a season-long loan from Manchester United.

Miltiadis Marinakis, the son of Forest owner Evangelos is said to have played a massive role in bringing Lingard to the club.

Forest start their season away to Newcastle United on August 6 before welcoming West Ham on August 14.

West Ham fans are planning to throw fake money at Lingard when the two sides meet in a month's time.
