Joe Lycett shreds £10,000 after challenging David Beckham to quit as Qatar World Cup ambassador

Comedian Joe Lycett has stuck to his words by shredding £10,000 live on stream after David Beckham failed to meet his demands to quit as an ambassador of Qatar.

Lycett said on video: “If you end your relationship with Qatar, I will donate ten grand of my own money (that’s a grand for every million you’re reportedly getting) to charities that support queer people in football,’ he said.

“However, if you do not, I will throw the money into a shredder at midday next Sunday, just before the opening ceremony of the World Cup and stream it right here. Not just the money, but also your status as gay icon will be shredded.

“Also, you’ll be forcing me to commit what might be a crime. Although even then, I reckon I’ll get off more lightly than I would if I got caught whacking off a lad in Doha.

“The choice is yours. I look forward to hearing from you.”

As Beckham hasn’t responded, Lycett has now gone ahead with his plan and shredded the money.

Lycett was wearing a rainbow-coloured coat and without saying a word, shredded the cash live on stream.

Afterwards, many fans took to social media to praise Lycett for sticking to his words.

One said: “Nothing but the utmost respect for Joe sticking to his guns.”

Another commented: “Joe Lycett remains wonderful. And isn’t afraid to follow through on his promises. Beckham, on the other hand…”
