Jorge Mendes Has Told Atletico Madrid He Wants Joao Felix To Be Sold

Jorge Mendes Has Told Atletico Madrid He Wants Joao Felix To Be Sold

Felix has only started three La Liga games this season with the signing of Antoine Griezmann and his agent is getting frustrated.

Jorge Mendes has told Atletico Madrid that he wants his client Joao Felix to be sold in January, with the club willing to listen to offers.

Felix arrived at Atletico for an incredible £113 million at just 19-years-old, following his first season in Benfica's first team, where he scored 15 times in 26 games in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

The forward was signed by Diego Simeone as a replacement for Antoine Griezmann, who left that summer for Barcelona in a deal worth around the same amount.

Felix has shown flashes of his genius whilst at the Wanda Metropolitano but has yet to reach his full potential, although he's still on 22-years-old.

He could soon be on his way out of Atleti though, with reports that his agent, Mendes, has asked the club to sell the player in January, according to AS.

Felix was injured at the beginning of the season but worked his way back into Simeone's first team when he got fit, starting three La Liga games and all four of their Champions League games.

However that changed for the match with Valencia in November, when the Portugal forward was on the bench and only played the final three minutes.

Speaking on Cadena Ser, journalist Javier Matallanas claimed that the Valencia game is where the problems started.

"He has to find another project, because in this one it is not working for whatever reason. A wonderful footballer is being lost, presenter Jesus Gallego said.

"Everything starts after the Mestalla game, since Jorge Mendes contacts the club to request his departure. Atleti has told him that as long as he brings the money, they will let him leave," Matallanas explained.

Another report in AS on Tuesday claimed that the club would have been interested in selling the former Benfica player in order to raise funds if Atleti failed to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages.

The team were bottom of their group going into Matchday Six but managed to turn things around to finish second, behind Liverpool, despite Luis Suarez's injury.

That injury could see Felix get more game time again, having recovered from a recent issue himself to be an unused sub against Porto on Tuesday.

Barcelona were interested in swapping Griezmann for Felix in the summer, but Atleti weren't interested in the deal but signed the France forward anyway.

The Catalan giants would have to sell to be able to afford to buy the highly rated youngster, such are their money troubles.
