Jorginho strike earns Arsenal all three points thanks to huge slice of luck

Arsenal twice came from behind to beat Aston Villa, in an enthralling match, with two injury time goals earning them all three points.

Arsenal were desperate to bounce back on Saturday early afternoon, after they had earned just one point in their previous three games.

Wednesday night's loss to Manchester City meant that Mikel Arteta's side finally dropped off top spot, on goal difference, although they'd played a game less.

A win against former Gunners' boss Unai Emery on Saturday would mean the north Londoners going back to the top of the table, and put pressure back on Pep Guardiola's side.

Disaster struck just five minutes in, as Ollie Watkins opened the scoring for the hosts, after a brilliant ball by Matty Cash, with the forward beating William Saliba before slotting home.

Bukayo Saka continued his amazing form by equalising just 11 minutes later, beating former Arsenal goalkeeper Emi Martinez with a great half volley.

Villa retook the lead before half time through Philippe Coutinho, before Oleksandr Zinchenko equalised just after the hour mark, from the edge of the box.

After Martin Odegaard had missed a sitter and Leon Bailey's shot was saved onto the crossbar, it looked like the game was heading for a draw.

However, with injury time having already begun, Jorginho crashed a shot off the crossbar and the ball hit Emi Martinez on the back of the head, going into the goal to earn the visitors all three points.

Villa did attempt to get back into the game, and grab what would have been a very deserved points, however their push for a third goal backfired.

The league leaders broke from a Villa corner and, with former Arsenal keeper Martinez up the pitch to try and help score, the visitors had an empty goal.

Gabriel Martinelli ran clear before slotting the ball home, and making sure that the team took three points home to the Emirates Stadium for the first time since beating Manchester United last month.

Fans and pundits had started questioning Arteta's side's chances of winning the league after the recent run, and the trip to face their former manager had some expecting more heartache.

However, the manner of the win, twice coming from behind, shows they have the character to continue to fight City for the title.
