Jose Mourinho wants a new UEFA rule change, it would have a huge effect on both the Champions League and Europa League

Jose Manager wants a major rule in UEFA club competitions as the Portuguese manager doesn't believe the current format is fair.

Mourinho guided his Roma side into the Europa League quarter-finals on Thursday night after a 2-0 aggregate win over Real Sociedad.

The Giallorossi beat the Basque outfit 2-0 at the Stadio Olimpico in the first leg courtesy of goals from Stephan El Shaarawy and Marash Kumbulla and saw out a 0-0 draw in San Sebastian.

Mourinho, who guided Roma to an inaugural and historic Europa Conference League win last term, is vying to win UEFA's secondary competition for the second time after a triumph with Manchester United.

But he is not a fan of the way in which teams from the Champions League are able to participate in the Europa League.

Eight teams who finished third in the Champions League group stage dropped into a preliminary Europa League round of 16 knockout round.

And the same applies for the third-place teams in Europa League groups, as they get a second bite out of the cherry in the Conference League.

But two-time Champions League winner Mourinho feels teams who have been knocked out should not be handed another opportunity and had a little dig at rivals Lazio.

"There are teams there who in my view should not be there," he told Sky Sport Italia, as per the Daily Mail.

"If they are eliminated from a competition, they should go home!

"So if the Europa League is won by a side that went out of the Champions League, then it will be meaningless to me.

"The Europa League ought to be for the teams who went through the whole thing. I mean, Lazio aren't going into a third tournament now, are they? That's how it should be."

Juventus, Sevilla, Bayer Leverkusen and Sporting Lisbon are all in the Europa League quarter-finals after starting the season playing Champions League football.

Roma drew Feyenoord, who they beat in the Europa Conference League final last season.
