Jose Mourinho's Roma were denied by 'the greatest triple save ever'

Jose Mourinho's Roma were denied by what many are calling "the greatest triple save" of all-time on Saturday.

The Giallorossi ran out 2-0 winners against Empoli at the Stadio Olimpico courtesy of goals from Roger Ibanez and Tammy Abraham in the opening six minutes.

But fans were stunned as to how a third goal didn't go in after some insane goalkeeping from Guglielmo Vicario in the early exchanges of the second half.

Vicario first punched away a venomous effort from Paulo Dybala before the ball dropped to Gianluca Mancini on the rebound.

He got a sweet connection on his strike but Vicario got down to make a stunning one-handed stop.

But the best save was to come as after clawing it away, the ball arrived in the path of Abraham just yards out.

The 26-year-old somehow stopped the ball from going in with a ridiculous reactive save with his outstretched foot. Empoli survived, cleared the ball and got up the pitch on the counter attack.

Ultimately it didn't have a bearing on the result but fans praised Vicario for a tremendous trio of saves.

One wrote: "He should be catching the first one. But after that, bravo..."

A second said: "That’s the best goalkeeping I’ve ever seen. Oh my god."

A third added: "The first save is good, the second is better but the third is astonishing... Unbelievable from Empoli's Guglielmo Vicario."

A fourth opined: "Guglielmo Vicario has made one of the best triple saves I've seen and that is why he's one of the best keepers in Italy."

Another commented: "I’ve just been made aware of these saves from Empoli’s Guglielmo Vicario. My word those are two stupendous saves from him."

Vicario is having a stellar season in Serie A and reports say both Napoli and Roma are keeping tabs on him ahead of the summer window. As per Nicolo Schira, it's said he could cost around €18-20 million.
