Thiago and Alisson show Liverpool could yet sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund

Thiago and Alisson show Liverpool could yet sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund

Liverpool could yet sign Jude Bellingham.

Liverpool have reportedly cooled their interest in signing Jude Bellingham this summer - but their previous pursuits of Thiago and Alisson show that a deal remains possible.

The latest report on Liverpool's chances of signing the Borussia Dortmund star came courtesy of The Times' Paul Joyce, who claims that the Reds have now moved on to alternative targets.

The Telegraph's Chris Balcombe then reported that manager Jurgen Klopp was 'fully on board' with the decision not to pursue Bellingham, with any deal set to have taken away a significant amount of Liverpool's budget.

Although the news has come as a disappointment to those connected with the Reds, it could suggest that the club are intent on signing a number of players this summer to solve key issues in the squad.

However, previous transfer sagas involving Liverpool suggest that the Bellingham deal might not be off just yet.

Thiago, Alisson deals show Bellingham could sign for Liverpool

In 2018, Liverpool managed to secure the sought-after signature of Alisson Becker from Roma, with the goalkeeper immediately installed as the club's number one.

The Brazilian has won seven trophies during his time at Anfield, including a Premier League and Champions League title. Along with the acquisitions of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the signing of Alisson has been one of the key deals made under Klopp that transformed Liverpool into regular trophy contenders - this season aside.

However, there was a time prior to his signing that the deal looked to be off. In February 2018, The Times claimed that Liverpool were no longer looking to sign Alisson, with Roma's price tag said to be a key reason.

But he went on to move to Anfield for a fee of £66.8 million - making him the world's most expensive goalkeeper at the time.

Then, two years later, a report from the Liverpool Echo claimed that a move for Bayern Munich star Thiago Alcantara would be unlikely.

But the Spain international became a Liverpool player by the end of that summer, and has since become a key player in Klopp's side when available.

And while a Bellingham deal may end up not happening this time around, it is worth recalling the moves for Thiago and Alisson as two examples of where transfer pursuits are never truly over until the window slams shut.
