Liverpool Manager Jurgen Klopp Reveals How Darwin Nunez Will Fit In At The Club

Klopp has spoken out on Liverpool's new signing Darwin Nunez.

With Liverpool’s newest signing Darwin Nunez being officially unveiled, the Reds’ charismatic manager Jurgen Klopp has wasted no time in explaining how this promising youngster will fit into their already star studded squad.

Nunez burst into the footballing spotlight this season, playing for Benfica and outperforming the rest of the Primeira Liga (Portugal’s top league). He bagged himself 34 goals in 41 appearances, including scoring twice against Liverpool when the sides met in the Champions League quarter final. After this sort of goal scoring record there was no doubt that many high profile clubs would be after him, but luckily for Klopp the Reds got there first.

As you would expect, the 22-year-old Uruguayan striker hasn’t come cheap, initially signing for a fee of £64 million that has the potential to rise to £85 million depending on add-ons. Nunez has signed on for a six-year deal at Anfield and fans hope that he can fill the void which would be left by Sadio Mane if the Senegalese winger does end up leaving for Bayern Munich.

Liverpool’s beloved manager Jurgen Klopp was eager to share his thoughts on the clubs latest signing with the Evening Standard reporting that Klopp told Liverpool’s official website that the successful transfer was “really super news!”. “I’m very grateful to everyone at the club for making it happen. We’ve shown decisiveness and ambition in equal measure” he went on to say.

Klopp highlighted all the aspects of Nunez’s unique playstyle that first appealed to him, saying that: “He has all the pieces we (Liverpool) look for. He can set a tempo, he brings energy, he can threaten space from central and wide areas and he is aggressive and dynamic with his movement.” Overall, Klopp explained that Nunez “plays without fear (and) he’s powerful”, knowing that he will excite their supporters.

However, Klopp spoke to fans directly, warning them that despite Nunez’ impressive stats last season, they need to acknowledge that they “are getting a ‘work in progress’ with Darwin”, so they need to give him time to settle in.

He ended his praise for their new superstar by sending out a comforting message claiming that: “We (Liverpool) have wonderful attacking options already and he becomes part of that now, so there is no pressure on him at all. He signs for a very long time and we intend to nurture his talent and see it grow.”

With the talented Norwegian forward Erling Haaland being snatched up by the Premier League champions Manchester City, Nunez has no doubt already been subjected to comparisons to his City counterpart. But as shown in this interview, Liverpool’s manager has no doubt that Nunez was the right choice for them and will help to bring success to the club, evolving into an even more clinical forward in the process.
