Kalvin Phillips asked to 'start one, bench one, sell one' between Bellingham, Haaland and Mbappe

Kalvin Phillips gave a brilliant response when asked to 'start one, bench one, sell one' between Jude Bellingham, Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe.

The Manchester City midfielder fielded questions from the world's press ahead of England's World Cup quarter-final clash against France on Saturday.

And during his press conference, he was asked to 'start one, bench one, sell one' with Bellingham, Haaland and Mbappe.

Naturally, he opted to start his England teammate Bellingham, who has starred for the Three Lions this tournament. The 19-year-old has been one of Gareth Southgate's best performers in Qatar, having produced a dynamite showing against Senegal.

Phillips continued by saying he 'loves' Haaland, but he'd bench him - insisting he'd still bag a hat-trick. Of course, they're club colleagues, with the Norwegian phenom also born in Leeds.

And, finally, he'd sell Mbappe because he'd probably command the biggest transfer fee. Mind games? Probably not. Mbappe would likely go for a lot of money, in fairness.

Phillips, who has yet to start a game at the World Cup, spoke on the battle between Kyle Walker and Mbappe, who's viewed as England's biggest threat.

But the 27-year-old has backed Walker to stop the France forward in their showdown.

"Kyle Walker is the quickest player I've ever seen play football," he said. "A lot of people ask how fast he is but you can't really put it into words.

"You just have to see him out on the training pitch or 1 vs 1 with a really quick player and we'll see that in a few days.

"If there's anyone, I'd like to put up against Mbappe to stop him, its Kyle Walker. He's an unbelievable defender and probably the only one that's quicker than him."

The Three Lions take on Les Bleus for a spot in the semi-finals. Who takes it? Let us know.
