"You're too fat to play for Leeds!" - Kalvin Phillips had a hilarious reaction to brutal chant

"You're too fat to play for Leeds!" - Kalvin Phillips had a hilarious reaction to brutal chant

Phillips left Leeds United for Manchester City in the summer.

Leeds United fans jokingly chanted, "You're too fat to play for Leeds" at Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips upon his first return to Elland Road.

Phillips left his boyhood club for the Premier League champions in a £42 million deal over the summer but has struggled with injury.

City manager Pep Guardiola left the 27-year-old out of his squad for last Thursday's Carabao Cup win over Liverpool after returning from England's World Cup campaign 'overweight'.

It's something the Leeds faithful picked up on during Wednesday evening's 3-1 defeat. Check out the footage below.

Phillips, who helped Leeds earn promotion to the Premier League in 2020, warmed up as "You're too fat to play for Leeds" rained down from the stands.

Leeds are one of the hardest-working teams in the division, a reputation they earned under Marcelo Bielsa and continue to live up to under Jesse Marsch.

It was all fun and games from Leeds supporters. Phillips cracked a smile before applauding while continuing his warm-up.

In response, chants of "Yorkshire Pirlo" echoed around Elland Road one final time. Phillips didn't manage to get on the pitch, with Guardiola opting to use Joao Cancelo, Phil Foden and Cole Palmer instead.

Rodri opened the scoring for City just before halftime before Erling Haaland scored a brace in the second half to make it 20 Premier League goals in a record 14 games.

Leeds did manage to grab a consolation through Pascal Struijk 17 minutes from time, but City were good value for all three points.

Guardiola attempted to clarify his comments about Phillips in his post-match interview. He joked the Three Lions star now had a 'perfect body' after recovering from a shoulder issue.

He said: "He has the perfect body now - so sexy. We will see for the weekend.

"He has spent the first part of the season out with surgery to arrive for the World Cup - and did everything to get to the World Cup.

"It's not just about just being fit you also have to understand what we want to do, the movements etc.

"So that means, as quick as possible, because Rodri cannot play all the games, so as quick as possible he he will play.

"But I'm happy that yesterday for example Kalvin trained really well and sooner or later he will play."

City are currently second in the Premier League, five points behind Arsenal. They return to action on Saturday afternoon against Everton.
