Footage shows Kylian Mbappe dusted Kyle Walker in foot race with the ball during England vs France

Kylian Mbappe and Kyle Walker engaged in an entertaining battle during England's World Cup quarter-final clash with France.

Kylian Mbappe beat Kyle Walker in a foot race with the ball during France's 2-1 World Cup quarter-final win over England.

Much of the pre-match chatter going into the clash surrounded Mbappe and England would stop the in-form Paris Saint-Germain star.

There was talk of England having a two-year plan to defend against Mbappe, while Walker quite ruthlessly said he wasn't going to "roll out the red carpet" and snubbed him as his toughest opponent.

On the night, Walker and the rest of England's backline did well to keep France's main man quiet and stopped him from adding to his five goals in the tournament.

Instead it was Aurelien Tchouameni and Olivier Giroud who struck - the latter scoring the goal which broke England hearts.

But Mbappe showed his quality on many an occasion and one instance in the second half saw him roast Walker one-on-one.

Walker is quite possibly the fastest player in the Premier League and his recovery speed is a vital asset for club and country.

But just after Harry Kane equalised from the spot, Mbappe bested Walker down the left. Both displayed blistering pace but Mbappe edged it and managed to deliver a cut-back into the box but it couldn't quite fall for Giroud or Ousmane Dembele.

Mbappe didn't have too many direct runs at Walker but he was the victor here. He held off his opponent to stay ahead of him in the race and managed to get the cross in.

Later on Mbappe went viral after cameras picked up his reaction to Kane's missed penalty.

Having already slotted one past his club teammate Hugo Lloris, the England skipper had the chance to level with a second spot-kick after Theo Hernandez's clumsy foul on Mason Mount.

However, Kane blasted his effort over the bar and into the stands in uncharacteristic fashion.

While Kane was utterly dejected, Mbappe was spotted laughing at the miss. To his credit, he did then console Kane after the final whistle.

Mbappe will now take on PSG colleague Achraf Hakimi and ultimate underdogs Morocco in Wednesday's semi-final as France look to qualify for a second consecutive final.
