Luka Modric offered new job at Real Madrid as Carlo Ancelotti makes his feelings clear

Luka Modric offered new job at Real Madrid as Carlo Ancelotti makes his feelings clear

Luka Modric has been offered a new role at Real Madrid ahead of his contract expiring at the end of the season.

Luka Modric has been offered a new job at Real Madrid as he closes in on retirement from football.

Modric rejected an astronomical offer from Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr in the summer.

The 38-year-old ended up signing a new contract extension with Los Blancos and has played 20 times in La Liga, where Real are currently six points clear at the top.

The 2018 Ballon d'Or winner is still yet to decide on his future at the Santiago Bernabeu but The Athletic say that Modric has been offered the opportunity to join the coaching staff at Real if he decides to call it quits.

The proposal was presented to the Croatia international around two months ago but was turned down by Modric, who still has the hunger to continue playing.

However, it's said it was not a "definitive no" from the former Spurs midfielder and he hasn't completely closed off the idea of taking on a different role.

Ancelotti was asked about his status prior to the game against Getafe earlier this month, telling a press conference: “As I have already said, Luka is a legend of football, of Real Madrid. The decisions for next season have to be taken by him.”

Modric is not focusing on the decision just yet and any campaign will likely come after Euro 2024 in Germany this summer.

Ancelotti's coaching staff currently includes his son Davide, as well as Francesco Mauri, who was previously courted by a side in Saudi Arabia.

Modric has been with Real for over a decade, having joined from Spurs for a fee of £35 million in 2012.

He was initially labelled a flop by Spanish media but has gone on to be one of the club's greatest ever players, winning an impressive 23 trophies and racking up 516 appearances.
