Fan nets £35,000 off 23 fold accumulator bet thanks to timely goal

One football fan was left feeling very good about himself, after an injury time goal netted him a whopping £35,000 off a 23 fold accumulator.

Liverpool once again gave fans the perfect example of just why you should never include the Saturday 12.30 pm kick off in your weekend accumulator.

Jurgen Klopp's side continued their horrendous away form, losing to then bottom of the table Nottingham Forest, thanks to Taiwo Awoniyi scoring the only goal of the game.

Whilst Forest were worth their win, they did need a great performance from Dean Henderson, with the on loan Manchester United goalkeeper making one huge late save from Virgil van Dijk's header.

One fan definitely did avoid the slip of the early kick off on Saturday, as he earned himself £35k from just a £50 stake, thanks to half time goals.

The Betfair punter placed an accumulator on 23 games in which he felt there would be more than 0.5 goals in the first 45 minutes in all of them.

With the likes of Manchester City, Norwich City, QPR, Peterborough and Leyton Orient scoring relatively early, it looked like the bet might land.

However, as the first halves across the country of the 3 pm kick offs started coming to an end, Salford City and Stockport County were still goalless.

That was until Will Collar scored in the second minute of injury time, giving his side a much needed lead and the punter a much needed £35,000.

It's not been a great start to the season for County, who were promoted from non league last season, after topping the National League from Wrexham.

They were one of the favourites to earn back-to-back promotion but have so far struggled in the fourth tier and are far closer to relegation than promotion, at this early stage of the season.

However, Collar's goal not only gave that punter a huge boost, but his own team's chances, before Paddy Madden doubled the lead with just 12 minutes left of the game.

The loss was a huge blow to Salford, famously owned by the legendary 'Class of 92,' who are themselves hoping to finally make the move up to League One.

It was the second game in-a-row that they've lost, leaving them nine points below top of the table Leyton Orient, though only three points off the top four, automatic promotion places.
