Leeds are playing a 5-4-1 at home in must-win game and still conceded inside two minutes

Leeds United got off to the worst possible start on the final day of the Premier League season after conceding just two minutes in against Spurs.

Sam Allardyce's struggling side went into the last matchday knowing they needed nothing less than a win to have any chance of remaining in the Premier League as they slugged it out with Leicester and Everton at the bottom.

Allardyce, managing Leeds for just the fourth time after replacing the sacked Javi Gracia, elected to apply caution first by fielding six recognised defenders at Elland Road.

Luke Ayling, Rasmus Kristensen, Maximilian Wober, Liam Cooper and Pascal Struijk all lined up in a 5-4-1 formation, while Robin Koch was moved into midfield.

But the tactical plan was undone almost immediately as inside two minutes, Heung-Min Son picked out Harry Kane, who slotted in his 29th goal in a sensational individual season.

The presence of a multitude of defenders was ultimately pointless as Kane was afforded the freedom of Yorkshire for his goal.

And fans couldn't help but focus on the hapless defending from Leeds, who have shipped an unwanted record of 75 goals this term.

One wrote: "There are six Leeds defenders in the starting line-up and Spurs just opened them up so easily. Looked like they were chasing Spurs shadows."

Another commented: "Can someone let the Leeds team know that the game has started?"

A third stated: "5 defenders and they still leave Harry Kane unmarked? I'm sorry but you deserve to go down."

A fourth asked the question: "Do Leeds even have one good defender?"

Leeds survived on the final day last season with a last-gasp win over Brentford under Marcelo Bielsa but it remains to be seen whether they will be able to repeat those heroics this time around.

The 1992 league champions have not won in eight games and Allardyce's only point came in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle earlier this month.
