Alphonso Davies will 'take care' of Lionel Messi if the six time Ballon d'Or winner plays on the same side as the teenage full back on Friday night.

Barcelona take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter final tomorrow night, with many expecting the Germans to go on to win the tournament this year.

Many believe that Barca's chances of going through come down to Messi, and whether their all time top scorer can drag them past the Bundesliga winners.

However Bayern chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge believes that 19-year-old Davies won't have a problem 'taking care' of Messi.

"Alphonso played a great season and was deservedly voted young player of the year," the former Bayern player told Sky.

"If Messi plays on his side, Alphonso will take care of him. It's a difficult but interesting task. Alphonso hasn't been outpaced or dribbled past often this season."

The young Canadian, who started life as a left winger, played six times in the 2018/19 season for Bayern but has had a truly breakout season this year.

Davies was moved to left-back, with David Alaba moving to centre back, and has been excellent for Hans Flick's side this season.

He's impressed with 24 starts in the league, with another five in the Champions League, and picked up three goals and five assists in the process.

It's not too often domestically that Davies gets forced back by the full back on the right but he could come up against his toughest opponent on Friday.

It hasn't been a vintage season for Messi, or Barcelona, but the 33-year-old still finished as La Liga's top scorer with 25 goals and also came up with 21 assists for his side.

He also scored a goal and won a penalty, which Luis Suarez converted, in the last 16 second leg against Napoli last week, to take them through to the quarters.

Despite all that the Argentina forward is coming under pressure for his title as the world's best. There's no Ballon d'Or winner to be crowned this year but many believe Robert Lewandowski has been better than Messi this season.

Neymar's performance against Atalanta on Wednesday night also had people comparing the Brazilian to his former Barca teammate once again.

On Friday though he'll have another chance to prove why he is considered one of the best players of all time, if Davies is to keep Messi quiet then he'll have a hell of a night.
