Leonardo Bonucci And Giorgio Chiellini Once Argued Over Lionel Messi's Shirt

Italy pair Leonardo Bonucci And Giorgio Chiellini were unflappable throughout Euro 2020 but the pair once got in a bit of an argument over Lionel Messi's shirt.

Bonucci and Chiellini were integral to Italy's success at the Euros, with Chiellini's tug on Bukayo Saka's shirt in the final becoming instantly iconic.

Even before the Euros, the pair have enjoyed success as a partnership during their time at Juventus together, winning eight Serie titles side-by-side in the Old Lady defence.

Whilst their partnership does look as solid as a rock, like any good partners, they still do have the occasional argument.

Back in 2017, Juve faced Barcelona in the Champions League quarter finals. During the second leg Bonucci tried to get his hands on Messi's shirt.

Towards the end of the game, the former Bari defender approached the six time Ballon d'Or winner shouting "Leo," before his teammate comes across to slap his hand.

Undeterred by his teammate giving him a little punch on the arm, Bonucci again shouts "Leo," before adding, "Can I have your shirt?"

It's not 100% clear whether Chiellini's part in the discussion is because he also wanted the shirt or whether he wants his teammate to concentrate.

Juve were 3-0 up on aggregate, after winning the game at home, and were in little danger in the 0-0 draw in the Nou Camp.

No matter Chiellini's annoyance at the situation, it didn't matter, with Bonucci getting his hands on his opponent's shirt.

Speaking about the shirt after the match, Bonucci sai, "Getting Messi's shirt at the end of the game? I was pleased to have the jersey of the best player in the world.

"My son will be very happy."

Whether the 34-year-old is still allowed to say Messi is the best in the world anymore, seeing as Cristiano Ronaldo is now his teammate, is by the by.

Bonucci also got the best piece of memorabilia at the Euros, with his amazing picture of Harry Maguire after Italy won the penalty shootout in the final.
