Lisandro Martinez posts positive injury update that will delight Man Utd supporters

Lisandro Martinez has posted a positive update following his injury against Sevilla.

The 25-year-old went down in the latter stages of United's Europa League quarter-final clutching his right ankle, and needed be carried off the field by international teammates Gonzalo Montiel and Marcos Acuna.

Erik ten Hag was unable to provide an update on the Argentine's injury status after the game, but United have since confirmed that he is out for the rest of the season after fracturing a metatarsal bone in his foot.

The news has come as a major blow to supporters who have relied heavily on the defender this term. While fellow centre-back Raphael Varane also limped off against Sevilla, and has not featured for the Red Devils since.

However, Martinez has responded to the setback well, posting a positive update on social media.

Martinez was forced to undergo surgery on his foot this week, with the World Cup winner since revealing that it has gone "really well".

He posted a picture on Instagram of himself post-surgery with a beaming smile and his thumbs up.

Martinez captioned the photo: "Everything went really well, thanks to God! Many thanks for all of your messages. Now focusing on the recovery," accompanied by a bicep emoji.

Countless teammates shared their support for the defender, including compatriot Alejandro Garnacho, who is also sidelined with a foot injury. While Bruno Fernandes commented a love heart emoji.

International teammate Angel Di Maria was next to send his encouragement, commenting, "Vamossssss" with three clapping emojis.

Manchester United travel to Sevilla for the second leg of their Europa League tie on Thursday, with the tie balanced on a knife edge at at 2-2.

The Red Devils looked to be in complete control during the first leg at Old Trafford up until the 86th minute, when own-goals from Tyrell Malacia and Harry Maguire let the six-time winners back in.
