Liverpool fans convinced Nunez will 'outscore Haaland next season' after he's set for shirt number upgrade

Liverpool fans convinced Nunez will 'outscore Haaland next season' after he's set for shirt number upgrade

Liverpool fans are excited about Darwin Nunez's potential shirt number change.

Liverpool fans are convinced Darwin Nunez will become a new 'monster' and 'outscore' Erling Haaland next season after he's set for a shirt number upgrade.

Nunez joined Liverpool from Benfica last summer in a transfer worth a potential £85 million.

He enjoyed a mixed debut campaign in England, scoring 15 goals in all competitions as he showed glimpses of his undeniable ability.

The Uruguayan sported the No.27 shirt in the 2022/23 campaign but could be in line for a new shirt number ahead of the 2023/24 season.

It appears he could be set to land the No.9 shirt following Roberto Firmino's departure. Football Authentica shared an image of ready-to-print 'Darwin' No.9 sets, hinting at a potential jersey change.

If he lands the No.9 shirt, then he'll follow in the footsteps of Fernando Torres, who wore the same number during his legendary spell at Anfield.

Liverpool fans online are excited about the potential new number for their star striker, with some convinced he will 'outscore' Man City phenom Haaland next season.

One Twitter user wrote: "New number would give his confidence a world of good. Better number, more responsibility and a fresh number could help him. Only downside is people who bought his old number lol."

A second tweeted: "Next season Darwin Nunez will arrive."

A third added: "Darwin Nunez outscoring Haaland next season. I will be there no matter what."

A fourth said: "New number. New player. New monster."

Another added: "He's bagging 30 if this happens."

Judging by this season, the 23-year-old will have some task on his hands next season as he scored just nine league goals in 29 appearances.

The Norwegian, on the other hand, bagged the Premier League Golden Boot award after smashing 36 goals in 35 games.

If Nunez receives the No.9 shirt, will he rival Haaland for next season's Golden Boot award? Let us know what you think.
