'Matter Of Priority' - Journalist Reveals Next Liverpool Player To Be Offered New Deal

'Matter Of Priority' - Journalist Reveals Next Liverpool Player To Be Offered New Deal

Liverpool are set to offer Diogo Jota a new contract

Liverpool are set to offer Diogo Jota a new contract, according to reliable journalist Ben Jacobs.

With Darwin Nunez having arrived from Benfica for £85 million earlier this summer, there has been some speculation surrounding Jota’s standing at Liverpool.

The Portuguese forward arrived from Wolves in a £41 million deal in 2020 and netted 21 times in 55 appearances across all competitions last season.

He played a key role as a number nine for the club in the 2021/22 campaign, as the Reds lifted both the Carabao Cup and the FA Cup.

The 25-year-old is currently earning £120,000 a week at Anfield, and the club’s hierarchy are now seemingly set to offer Jota a new lucrative deal.

Speaking to Give Me Sport, Jacobs has claimed that a fresh contract for the Portugal international is high on FSG’s to do list this summer.

The CBS Sports journalist said: “Liverpool will also look to offer Diogo Jota improved terms as a matter of priority."

"Most of the other names currently being linked with Liverpool are just rumour or agent talk with little substance.”

Despite Jota still having three years left on his current deal, it’s clear that the Anfield hierarchy are proactive in their decision making as they look to tie their assets down to substantial contracts early.

With Jacobs essentially ruling out new additions to the Merseyside club this summer, it appears that Jurgen Klopp’s attention will turn to outgoings in this window.

The likes of Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi have already left the club this summer, while the futures of Nat Phillips, Rhys Williams, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita are all yet to be resolved.

Klopp’s preparations for the new season are already well under way, and the Reds began their pre-season tour of Asia with a 4-0 defeat to Eric ten Hag’s Manchester United in Bangkok.

They now travel to Singapore where they’ll face Crystal Palace, before heading back to Europe to play games in Germany and Austria.
