Liverpool score rapid counter attack after nearly going behind to Everton corner

Sean Dyche's team hit the post from their own corner and just seconds later they found themselves behind in the Merseyside derby.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring for Liverpool in the Merseyside derby, with a rapid counter attack, just seconds after Everton nearly took the lead.

Anfield was full of anxious fans from both halves of the city on Monday night, with neither side in the position they would have wanted at the start of their campaigns.

The Reds in particular were out of form, especially following a 3-0 hammering at the hands of the league's lowest scorers Wolves just over a week ago.

At leas Sean Dyche took his men across Stanley Park on the back of winning his first game in charge of the Toffees, against Arsenal.

For much of the first half neither side could create a moment of real quality, as the visitors allowed last season's Premier League runners up to have much of the ball.

Jurgen Klopp's side always looked the most likely to open the scoring but Everton came closest to taking the lead, when James Tarkowski headed Alex Iwobi's corner against the post.

However, within seconds, the hosts had exploded up the park and Darwin Nunez found Salah in the centre of the box, with the Egyptian slotting home after Jordan Pickford had gone walkabout from his goal line.

"Pickford was heading down the tunnel 10 minutes early," ODDSbible joked.

Paddy Power felt the England goalkeeper just wanted to help Salah out, posting, "Fairly sound of Jordan Pickford to run out of the way and let Salah tap it into an open goal."

"Like someone’s manually controlling their keeper on FIFA with a two second lag," one fan added.

Another pointed out, "Says a lot about Pickford that this is probably only his 3rd most insane Merseyside Derby moment."

One Manchester United fan even wanted the Toffees' number one locking up, replying, "That is absolutely criminal from Pickford."

Even Liverpool account Redmen TV couldn't work out what was going on, surmising, "I've never played in goal, but something tells me Pickford has got himself in the wrong position there."

And another fan felt the former Sunderland man was in a different part of the city, saying, "Interesting approach from Pickford to be in Bootle for that goal."
