"Already discussing.." - Romano drops major Klopp update, Liverpool fans will be delighted

Romano has addressed links between Klopp and the German national team in a recent tweet.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed some news about Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp that will relieve fans of the Merseyside club.

Klopp took over at Liverpool in 2015 and has guided Liverpool back to the top of British and European football. He has won every possible domestic trophy, with highlights including Liverpool’s Champions League win in 2019 and their first ever Premier League title in 2020. He also recently extended his contract to keep him at Anfield until 2026.

Despite this, some rumours have recently circulated that Jurgen Klopp could be in line to take the Germany job, after pressure grew on Hansi Flick following Germany’s disappointing group stage exit.

However according to Romano, Klopp is not interested in the Germany job and is instead entirely focussed on Liverpool.

"Jurgen Klopp was never keen on being appointed as new Germany manager. He’s 100 per cent focussed on Liverpool now," tweeted Romano.

Klopp set on Bellingham

In the same tweet, Romano reaffirmed Liverpool’s interest in Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

“He’s…already discussing new signings with the board and insisting for Bellingham.”

Liverpool are one of several clubs who have been heavily linked with midfield. Liverpool’s quality and reliability in midfield has come under question at points this season, with Bellingham a young, well-rounded option who can act as a long-term successor to the likes of Jordan Henderson and Thiago.

A renowned journalist, Christian Falk, recently reported that Liverpool were the favourites to sign Jude Bellingham and that Bellingham’s family prefers a move to Anfield.

Contracts a priority

In the same tweet, Romano reported that Klopp will work closely with the board to sort out the contracts of various players.

Romano tweeted, “Klopp and Liverpool board will also decide together on player contract situations.”

Liverpool have a number of players with contracts expiring in 2023. the Reds face a choice over whether to offer new contracts to forward Roberto Firmino and midfielders Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Firmino, 31, was a surprise omission from Brazil's World Cup squad, but has been an important part of Liverpool’s team this season, chipping in with nine goals in all competitions.

Contrastingly, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have both struggled for game time, but have both produced important performances for Liverpool since their moves in 2018 and 2017 respectively.

James Milner’s contract is also set to expire but a new deal is unexpected.
