Liverpool's incredible '34 per cent' stat shows just how inconsistent they've been this season

A damning stat displays Liverpool's inconsistency.

A damning stat has displayed how inconsistent Liverpool have been this season.

The Reds have suffered a torrid campaign. A shock 1-0 loss to Bournemouth sees the Anfield club languish in sixth place in the Premier League, some six points adrift of the top four, albeit with a game in hand over fourth-placed Tottenham.

Moreover, Klopp’s side have long been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions while their Champions League hopes are dangling by a thread, having lost the first leg of the last-16 tie 5-2 against reigning champions Real Madrid.

Of course, Liverpool have been hampered by a series of injuries this term, with the likes of Thiago Alcantara, Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota all having been absent for sustained periods throughout the campaign.

However, at times their inconsistency has been stunning. Having battered bitter rivals Manchester United a week earlier, Klopp was despondent after the Reds’ Bournemouth loss.

The German said: “This game was a massive knock, but you know how it is with knocks.

“You have to look and see how big the scars are and then you go from there. The game was the opposite of what we wanted and we played for 95 minutes the game Bournemouth wanted to play."

Liverpool’s inconsistency

According to Football365, Liverpool have scored 34 per cent of their Premier League goals this season in just two games.

Despite their 1-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend, the Reds plundered nine goals past the Cherries in the reverse fixture.

Meanwhile earlier this month Liverpool subjected United to a 7-0 defeat, the Old Trafford club’s heaviest defeat since Boxing Day 1931.

No other team can match Liverpool on this particular metric. West Ham are the closest, having netted 29% of their goals in two games, scoring four against Forest, three against Fulham and only 24 overall.
